Zulu Alpha Kilo – 20Doors Scholarship Fund
Terms and Conditions
Zulu Alpha Kilo Inc. (“Zulu”) is launching the 20Doors Scholarship Fund, an initiative designed to give 20 individuals who are Black, Indigenous, or people of colour (“BIPOC”), all groups historically under-represented in the advertising industry, inspiration, opportunity, and assistance to enter and excel in this industry. The 20Doors Scholarship Fund is intended to engage and support BIPOC individuals who might have not otherwise have considered a career in advertising.
Each year over the next five years, Zulu will award scholarships (each a “20Doors Scholarship”) to four BIPOC individuals. Each 20Doors Scholarship will consist of the payment of tuition of a year-long undergraduate college advertising program in the Greater Toronto Area, in copywriting or art direction as set out below, and the opportunity to engage with senior Zulu creative personnel for mentorship and coaching.
The following terms and conditions apply to the 20Doors Scholarships:
1. Eligibility.
To be eligible for the 20Doors Scholarship, an applicant must be a Canadian resident who identifies as BIPOC, and has obtained an undergraduate degree by June 28, 2024.
Eligible individuals may only submit one application for the 2024 awards. Applicants who are not selected for a 2024 20Doors Scholarship may apply again for a 20Doors Scholarship to be awarded in another year.
By submitting an application for the 20Doors Scholarship, applicants warrant and represent that the information they have provided in and during the submission process is and will be accurate and complete. Zulu may at any time request documentation to properly confirm the identity and/or eligibility of any applicant. Failure to provide evidence of eligibility may result in disqualification. Zulu reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any applicant should such applicant fail to meet all of the eligibility requirements or, at any stage, supply untruthful, incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading personal details or information.
2. Selection Process.
Each eligible individual is invited to submit an application to Zulu for a 20Doors Scholarship.
Submissions for the 2024 20Doors Scholarships will be accepted until June 28, 2024 (the “Application Period”). Zulu may elect at any time to extend the submission process, at its sole discretion. Any change to the Application Period will be posted on the 20Doors Scholarship Fund website.
All applicants will be notified by email as to whether they have been selected to advance to the next step in the selection process. Zulu will invite a short-list of selected applicants to participate in a virtual job fair where applicants will face some fun creative challenges, learn from industry professionals, and be interviewed by a panel from the Zulu Alpha Kilo creative team.
Interviews are confidential and applicants agree not to record, share or post content online or on social media. Recording the session in any form is not permitted.
3. Selection criteria.
Applicants will be evaluated by a panel of judges who work at Zulu (the “Judges”), based on a collection of skills and qualities the Judges think make a great creative, and whether the selection of the applicant aligns with, and would further, the goals of the 20Doors Scholarship initiative. The selection of the applicants, and the award of any 20Doors Scholarship, is at the absolute discretion of Zulu.
4. How to apply for a 20Doors Scholarship.
To apply, applicants must send an email to 20Doors@ZuluAlphaKilo.com with the following:
(i) A short-video (no more than 2 mins) telling Zulu about themselves, including what post-secondary program the applicant has completed or is completing, and why the applicant is excited to step through a door into creative advertising; and
(ii) Share an example of their creativity (in any format – video, music, written word, visual art, etc.). This submission must be original and existing work of the applicant.
All applications must be complete and received by 11:59 PM EST on the last day of the Application Period. All submissions will be deemed received at the time recorded on the Zulu server report.
5. Privacy and Communications.
By submitting an application, applicants consent to Zulu collecting and using their personal information, and to receiving commercial electronic messages from Zulu, for the purpose of collecting, evaluating and communicating information with the applicant with respect to the 20Doors Scholarship Fund. No personal information of any applicant shall be disclosed publicly without the prior authorization of such applicant.
All creative materials submitted as part of the application process remain the intellectual property of the applicant and will not be used by Zulu for any purposes other than the administration of the 20Doors Scholarship Fund program.
6. Award.
The 2024 20Doors Scholarship recipients will be notified of their selection by the Judges within six (6) weeks of the close of the Application Period.
Once the 20Doors Scholarship recipients have been selected, each individual will be contacted and arrangements made, on an individual basis, to match the 20Doors Scholarship recipient with a Zulu creative, and to facilitate payment of the award. Selected applicants who fail to respond to Zulu within fifteen (15) days may be deemed to have rejected the award and Zulu shall be free to select an alternate. Funds of the award for tuition will be paid directly to the educational institution in the Greater Toronto Area once acceptance and registration is confirmed. Any additional funds made available for the successful applicant will be made available to the applicant at Zulu’s discretion.
7. Applicant’s election.
The applicant may at any time decline or defer the 20Doors Scholarship. If the successful applicant accepts the 20Doors Scholarship, and subsequently withdraws or ceases to attend the Program for any reason, the selected applicant will forfeit the remainder of the award.
8. Conduct.
By participating in the 20Doors Scholarship Fund selection process, each applicant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions. Each applicant further agrees to be bound by Zulu’s decisions, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Zulu reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any applicant found or reasonably believed to be: (a) violating these terms and conditions; or (b) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or interfering with the operation of the submission or selection process.
9. Legal.
Selected applicants will be required to sign a declaration and release and other documents prepared by Zulu prior to the award of the 20Doors Scholarship, including confirmation of the applicant’s eligibility. Zulu assumes no responsibility or liability for lost, late, damaged, or incomplete applications, notifications or replies, or any technical difficulties or human error during or arising from electronic communication or video conferencing with any applicant.
Zulu is not responsible for any injury or damage to any applicant arising from their application or participation in the selection process, or by the acceptance or failure to be awarded any scholarship.
In the event that the 2024 20Doors Scholarship Fund cannot be conducted as planned for any reason, Zulu reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the 20Doors Scholarship Fund program and/or these Terms and Conditions, in any way, at any time, for any reason without prior notice, including the right to cancel or terminate the 20Doors Scholarships (solely prior to the selection of an applicant) if bugs, virus, fraud, technical failures or any other factor impairs the integrity, administration or proper play of the admission and selection process (or portion thereof), as determined by Zulu in its sole discretion.
10. Release of Liability by Applicant.
By submitting an application, you release Zulu, and all other parties in any way involved in the receipt, evaluation and/or selection of the 20Doors Scholarship(s), and all of their respective employees, directors, officers, shareholders, agents, partners, licensees, successors and assigns from and against any and all manner of action, causes of action, suits, debts, covenants, contracts, claims, liabilities, demand or damages (including legal fees and expenses), of any nature or kind, arising out of, or in connection with the 20Doors Scholarship Fund, including, without limitation, the administration of application selection process, the selection and confirmation of the selected finalists, your participation or attempted participation in calls or video calls with Zulu.
